When you’re learning something new, most of the time it seems to make perfect sense to practice and be assessed on your learning in the most authentic environment possible.
But you can imagine that sometimes authentic assessment could be taken to an extreme. You can’t go around starting a forest on fire so that your Forest Fire Science students can get the real experience. Envision a scenario or subject where it really just isn’t advisable to pursue a fully authentic experience. Bonus points for telling us how to get as authentic (and safe) as possible instead.
