Think about a difficult concept in a course you teach or study; how would you explain it to a 5 or 6 year old? Can you fit it in a tweet? Might this make for a good assignment in your subject area?
The variant comes up too in reddit as explainitlikeim5, e.g. “ELI5: Why are places like Japan experiencing extreme heatwaves of 40-45 degrees celcius while equatorial areas such as Malaysia and Indonesia are not experiencing such high temperatures even though they are closer to the equator?” which has over 255 responses.
Is there a way for you to think about an assignment for your class either asking questions in this communicating or trying to answer? Or creating a community like this for your own class.
It’s August, and as the leadup to the start of the next semester, our extends this month have a Back to School theme, aimed at thinking how some of these activities might be used in your own teaching.
